About Me

My name is Emily and this semester I expect to graduate with a degree in psychology. While not finishing up my undergraduate degree I am very busy almost all of the time. I have worked in the same store for about three and a half years. It’s a small retail shop that specializes in fairies and other fantasy related collectables and toys. I don’t mind going to school of working in retail, as they are both part time, so I have more “free time” now that I’m not a full time student.

In this “free time” I volunteer with Planned Parenthood as an assistant to the event coordinator. This means that I call businesses to try to get product donations out of them in order to auction them off to people who are wealthier then I can ever hope to be. I love doing this because not only do I get to affiliate myself with a wonderful cause, but I get to wear cute little secretary outfits to the office.

The great love of my life right now, besides my boyfriend, is roller derby. For just over a year now, I have been a referee with the charm city roller girls. Roller derby is a contact sport on quad skates where two teams try to block each other from scoring points. If I could drop out of school and do derby full time I would do it in a heartbeat, but sadly, elbowing other women in the face does not pay as well as you might think that it would.

When I graduate at the end of this semester, I hope that Planned Parenthood will hire me on as a full time employee. I want to go on to grad school for social work in the next few years, but I definitely need a break from being a student for a while.
