Hey everyone, I also have some questions about health care in spain. I am definately interested in the questions that Sandra asked, but also if any of you have had any experiences yourself, or anyone you know, with hospitals or doctors visits while in Spain. Thanks for all of your help!

Spain is on a socialist system so everyone gets free med care. But there is also private med too. I got sick here (but we have a private insurance) and I was prescribed some medicine and it was only 5 euros which would have been 200 dollars in the states. The doctor visit was a little different. The had a desk in the examining room with a computer and he asked me what was going on, and filled out the paper work. In the US this would be taken care of by a triage nurse. Then he took me around the corner and checked me out. It was kind of cool how the doctor did it all because I have been in a hospital in the states where they send in about 50 different people to talk to you. Also a doctor is Spain is not a doctor of the world. Which means they can only practice medicine in Spain. To become a doctor in Spain you go straight out of high school. Currently I know they are trying to get it changed where doctors of Spain are doctors of the world. I guess they don't meet the requirements for training. If you have any more questions let me know.
